The Black Swan Theater welcomes exciting new scripts, directors, actors, readers who will help to select upcoming plays, benefactors, and ideas.

If you are interested in submitting a script or helping us with future productions we'd love to hear from you.

CURRENTLY…
BLACK SWAN THEATER will be active this summer, so if you are an actor or director stuck in Asheville for the summer, GIVE US A CALL. We will be doing a program of one acts at the ASHEVILLE ARTS COUNCIL on JUNE 14, for which we will need a bunch of actors. As it looks now, these one-acts will be UNCA-related, by students and possibly professors.

IN SEPTEMBER we will be doing a stage adaptation of GILGAMESH, first for the Chancellor's installation and then for a regular run at Diana Wortham. Actors and other sorts of participants are needed and welcome. We will need to begin rehearsals for this in the summer. If you are interested, please contact us soon!

Ongoing new scripts.
The process is this: every two months (this may go to once a month, depending on response and energy) Black Swan will arrange a reading of a new script or scripts before an audience, to which the playwright will be invited. Response sheets will be given to director, performers, and audience to aid in the development of the play, and an audio recording will be made for the playwright if he/she cannot be in attendance. Especially promising scripts will undergo further development at Black Swan and at Highland Repertory Theater (our professional partner in this endeavor) toward the end of possible full production. No payment to the playwright during reading and development, but contracts negotiated for full productions.
